FAQ V.0910
Please gather FAQ here and make a question/answer structure. Make it short so that everyone can find their question fast. It is better to split a question in two and write it under each other.
General
- Question: Is there a manual for the game?
- Answer: You can find a tutorial here. You can also reach it over the bar on top.
- Question: The game crashes./ I have an error./ There stands something with an error.txt. What should I do?
- Answer: Look down to the end of the page.
- Question: Are there cheats?
- Answer: No. But you can change (nearly) everything in the editor or with scripts. Normally the gamesets should be playable. (If you play "impossible" it's your fault.)
- Question: Is there a Multiplayer-Mode?
- Answer: No. There is no existing concept that can be made. If you have 20 programmers who can help us then we can talk about it again.
- Question: Why does the confidence of some countries fall, even if there is no UFO visible and no tactical combat available?
- Answer: Probably there is an UFO outside the (blue) radar range. The confidence falls even if you don't know about the UFO. You should send an airplane to unwatched parts of the globe. (Hint: Airplanes that don't move don't need fuel.)
- Question: What happens if a town is 100% infiltrated?
- Answer: Up to now: Nothing. But you should prevent that out of honor ;)
- Question: Can I transfer Equipment from one base to another?
- Answer: Equipment of soldiers yes, either on an soldier or in a transport. Airplane-parts cannot be transfered (up to now).
- Question: Why don't I get the bought wares?
- Answer: As soon as you buy something, an request to the market is placed. Look into Tutorial: Trade.
- Question: Can own music be played in X-Force?
- Answer: Yes, that is possible. The music can easily be placed into the music-folder (X-force/musik). If there is no such folder (because you haven't downloaded music files) you can create it.
The music files must be in WAV, MP3 or OGG Format. Is there an musik.ini you should rename or delete it. The .ini controls which music is played on which event. If the musik.ini is not present, all files will be played randomly.
- Question: Is there a Linux-Version of the game?
- Answer: No, unfortunately not. The game is based on DirectX and nobody thought at the start of the project (1999) about something like this. It would mean a rewrite of most of the parts of the game.
Geoscape
- Question: graphical problems: I only have an white or black Geoscape or I have other graphical problems.
- Answer: Unfortunately we don't know what is the exact reason for this. Possible actions to fix: install the newest software for your graphics card; Start-> programs-> X-Force-> online-update(setup): 16-bit graphics mode; window mode; in the game: disable alphablending. Please leave a message with informations about your system at Forum, Mantis Bugtracker or send an e-mail to xforce@avarion.de.
- Question: How can I watch over more of the Geoscape? The base radar range is too small.
- Answer: Either you build another base or outpost or you let your aircrafts fly patrol.
- Question: I get the message town X is infiltrated by an UFO. What should I do?
- Answer: If possible, shoot down the UFO. An infiltration has no negative effect - up to now at least ;)
- Question: I can't find the button 'intercept' , how can I send one of my fighters to intercept an UFO?
- Answer: There are several possibilities.
1. Directly after the shoot-down you choose 'intercept' from the window.
2. You choose a fighter (click on it or on the button on the top left hand side) and command the attack with a right click on the UFO.
3. Click on the UFO and click 'intercept' (under the time) ;)
- Question: How can I send a fighter on patrol??
- Answer: Choose a fighter (click on the base or on the icon under the time).
Click right on the point of the geoscape where the fighter should fly to. (waypoints are not possible)
Towns in countries with high confidence refuel your crafts. You can fly between them without ever returning to base.
- Question: I have build a second base. Now want do send fighter to the second base, unfortunately I didn't found out how.
- Answer: Choose a fighter (click on the icon under the time or on the base). Click right on the geoscape and the fighter will fly to this point - also if it's another base. Of course the fighter can only land there if there is free hangar space.
Bases and Buildungs
Airplanes and Soldiers
Air and Ground Combat
- Question: Is there a Micro-Tank
- Answer: A Micro-tank like in UFO: Enemy Unknown is not possible at the moment (and perhaps never).
- Question: Can I save during a ground combat?
- Answer: Not at the moment. posibly later, but it has a low priority (much work, relatively small benefit).
Editors
Installation of the Game and Maintenance, Technical
- Question: I have downloaded a gameset. How to play it?
- Answer: Copy it into: ...X-Force/data/gamesets
In the game, click "New Game" and in the following screen click on [...] left of the question mark. There is a new window with the gamesets.
- Question:Can I change the screen size?
- Answer: Yes, since Version 0.910Beta you can choose between three sizes (800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x800). You can change it in the Online-Updater (config.exe).
- Question: The game crashes, error screens, error.txt. What should I do?
- Answer: If you encounter crashes, freezes, or other (un)explainable errors please do the following:
- Check that you have the latest patches installed. Simply start the Online-Updater (Start->Programs->X-Force->Online-updater/update.exe) and click on online-update/search for updates.
- Please look into the Forums and into the
Mantis Bugtracker if there is an entry of your problem (in most cases only german though). If there is an entry, and the error isn't fixed, you can describe the error from your point of view. That could help the programmer to find the error and fix it.
- If the error is new, look into your ...X-Force/ file if there is an error.txt. If it exists, please make a description of the error in the
Mantis Bugtracker und upload the error.txt. You can also send a mail with a description of the error and the file to
xforce@avarion.de Attention: The error.txt file is automatically analysed and is needed
unchanged! If you copy the content, information can (and often will) be lost.
- If there is no error.txt, you can of course also write a report in Mantis or the bug Forum.
